The temple in the middle of the picture is dedicated to Shiva and stands out as the biggest of the three temples within the complex. As well as being larger, it also takes prominence in the middle.
The Prambanan temples are dedicated to the Hindu God, Shiva. Shiva is part of a trio of goods (Brahma – the creator, Vishnu – the preserver, Shiva – the destroyer); the Hindu mythology places equal weighting on the three’s importance.
The Indonesian Hindus in Java revered Shiva. As a result, they dedicated the biggest temple to Shiva as well as dominating the design with Shiva symbolism.
